In our lives we are flooded with material diversions. Our emotions are pulled from one direction to another by world and personal events inside and outside our homes. With what seems to be the growing push of militant Islam on the rise and tensions between governments and people It is increasingly important to come back to the center of what is really important.
The Psalmist praying to the Lord God here does that so well. It puts us right back where we can flourish in Gods love and providence.
I’m asking the Lord for only one thing. Here is what I want. I want to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. I want to look at the beauty of the Lord. I want to worship him in his temple.
One thing. Only one thing is all the Psalmist pleads for; To live in the house of the Lord all the days of his life. In other words…. To be in the center of God’s will, the center of God’s love, to be able to take in the beauty of God and to worship him in his temp.
From this position our lives take on an order and meaning beyond the bounds of human understanding because here, living in the house of the Lord those material things become trivial, the troubles of our lives and the world become small and less significant, and our worship of the Lord is full and pure.
“I want to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life”!!! That’s my one wish! Yours as well?
