Providence You Say

Deuteronomy 7:9 (NIRV)

“So I want you to realize that the Lord your God is God. He is the faithful God. He keeps his covenant for all time to come. He keeps it with those who love him and obey his commands. He shows them his love.”

I constantly marvel at the providence of our Lord.  Constantly!  In my youth, I was always in a hurry and didn’t often reflect on where the hand of God had directed and guarded me on my path but it didn’t take a great many years to begin to see providence at work on my path.  If you look up the word in one of the online dictionaries here is what you get. (I’ve BOLDED parts that really apply to this context of providence, as the word like many others in our lexicon have multiple meaning depending on context. The BOLDED definitions are where I want to focus.)

prov·i·dence [prov-i-duhns] noun

  1. ( often initial capital letter ) the foreseeing care and guidance of God or nature over the creatures of the earth.
  2. ( initial capital letter ) God, especially when conceived as omnisciently directing the universe and the affairs of humankind with wise benevolence.
  3. a manifestation of divine care or direction.
  4. provident or prudent management of resources; prudence.
  5. foresight; provident care.

Providence is so much a part of our experience with the Creator.  So much so that as our walk with the Lord continues down our path that I believe it becomes more and more evident to us. At least it does for me.  In times of trouble it is easy to lose sight on the fact that even though peril exists and we may not see the way clear that God does and as the passage above tells us God is faithful. He is going to keep his promises to us not just for a little while but for “ALL TIME TO COME”.  He does this for those that love him and keep his commands.  And finishes with the core of providence as it says to these he “shows them his love”…. Providence!  So maybe there is a 6th definition we might want to add to our dictionary.

6. The constant abiding display of God’s love to his people; though guidance, direction, and intercession.

I’d challenge you to look at the road behind you and take note where God’s hand has been at work

  • Aiding you though bad times
  • Making the way clear for us to progress in our walk where obstruction very easily could have disrupted from our course
  • Showing us the way back on course when we have gone astray
  • Providing peace and solace along the journey.

Amazingly enough God providence doesn’t end with our last breath in this world, as that loving care transcends death as we past to our immortal existence with our Lord and Savior in heaven.

Yeah I say Providence!… Pretty cool stuff!
