The Christian’s Knapsack

Psalm 34:8 (GNT)

Find out for yourself how good the Lord is. Happy are those who find safety with him.

The NIV states it as “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

One of my favorite meditative hymns is based on this verse:

   Taste and see,
   Taste and see,
   The goodness of the Lord

You may notice a slight departure in the scripture translation I reference today as I normally use NIV or NIRV for most of the things I write about.  Today however, we are going to sample some other versions for the flavor they bring to the topic. I like the way this is expressed in the Good News version ‘happy’.

I have and I’m sure most everyone has gone thought dealing with issues and struggle with tasks the befuddle and confound us, only to find near the end of the incident some simple, ready at hand solution that would have made the task a breeze if we’d had only put it practice.  Something we knew all along. Something that we should have realized.

Here is something very much like that sort of thing that I want you to really underline and bold face in your daily walk with the Lord. Every day, consistently come back to it over and over, and refresh yourself with it and apply it to all things you do.

Putting your trust in God’s hand for the outcomes, seek refuge, find safety in him. Remembering that…

(Philippians 4:13 KJV)

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

(Romans 8:28 KJV)

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Putting these three simple thing to work at every juncture of our day to day lives brings such joy…

(Philippians 4:7 NKJV)

and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

You might call these passages the Christians Knapsack.  Carry them with you wherever you go, keep them handy and use them often. If you do, then every challenge becomes less of a struggle, every task becomes simpler to accomplish, and every burden becomes lighter. And the radiance of the Holy Spirit will flow through you to all those around you.

Find out for yourself how good the Lord is. Happy are those who find safety with him.
