Can a man hide himself in secret places where I cannot see him?”—the Lord’s declaration. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?”—the Lord’s declaration.
Jeremiah 23:24 (HCSB)
Note from Kip…
My current journey through the Bible has me reading in Deuteronomy. When I read this verse this morning in my devotions, I was reminded of how God pursues His people.
The nation of Israel was constantly wandering off in their own ways. The lord had to remind them, time and time again, that they were His. Things would not go well for them, if they resisted Him; they were His chosen people.
Understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.
Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God in the wilderness. You have been rebelling against the Lord from the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place. You provoked the Lord at Horeb, and He was angry enough with you to destroy you.
Deuteronomy 9:6-8 (HCSB)
He wasn’t always pleased with them, but they were His and there was no way they were going to brush Him off. He was relentless. He is relentless with His own today in just the same manner.
For you are a holy people belonging to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be His own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.
Deuteronomy 7:6 (HCSB)
You might want to try and discount this as many do Old Testament scripture, but This caries through to the New Testament as well.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises, of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10 (HCSB)
Once you were not a people. You were unallocated with any particular group. You were the scourge of the earth, belonging to none and worthy of nothing. But see, that all changed when we gave our heart to Jesus!
Lord, Your faithful love reaches to heaven, Your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments, like the deepest sea.
Lord, You preserve man and beast. God, Your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They are filled from the abundance of Your house; You let them drink from Your refreshing stream, for with You is life’s fountain.
In Your light we will see light. Spread Your faithful love over those who know You, and Your righteousness over the upright in heart.
Psalms 36:5-10 (HCSB)
We are no longer unaccounted for, because we are now counted as His possession. And once in His hand we will not be taken from Him!
My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish — ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”
John 10:27-30 (HCSB)
And this brings me to reflect on my own personal experience with the Lords relentless love for those that are His possession. I understand that it is His desire that each and every human being on earth be saved for all of eternity. But he gave us free will, so that we might choose to be His.
The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 (HCSB)
In choosing to be His, we change radically the dynamics of the relationship between us and God. We give our lives to Him and He takes possession of that life. It literally is His and we become His people.
And just as Israel was prone to rebellion, we too can be as well. After all He put free will in us. He desires that we make a choice to follow Him, not out of a requirement, but because we wish to be His,above all other things. He wants our desire to become His.
So when I gave my heart to Jesus as a boy, He took that seriously. I did too at the time! But something happened, and as I came into adulthood, I found myself running away as hard as I could. Doing everything possible to deny Him. His possession; me!
But His love is relentless. He is faithful to that which He commits Himself to. I was His possession. He was not about to let me forget about that. Over 30 years of running He pursued. Over 30 years of me trying to hide from Him, He was always there.
But I was still resistent! Like the Apostle Paul, I finally heard Him declare to me that my running was over and it was time to come home. It was time for me to stop kicking against the goads.
We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice speaking to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.
Acts 26:14 (HCSB)
I had come to that point on the road to Damascus, where the Lord Himself had had enough of my defiance. I’d exhausted every avenue and there was no escape from His love. It was time to go home, the very same way as the prodigal son found himself envying the pigs for their food, and coming to his senses; I realized just what I’d been doing and longed for the home I’d ran from years before. I wanted more than anything to return to the joy and fellowship that was mine when I became His; before the rebellion.
I repented! I can’t imagine the shock to my family and friends when this happened. Instantly, my behavior changed. My language changed. My demeanor changed. I was renewed.
You took off, your former way of life, the old self, that is corrupted by deceitful desires; you are being renewed in the spirit of your minds; you put on, the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.
Ephesians 4:22-24 (HCSB)
Renewed! Never to run away again. Only to run beside my Lord and Savior.
If you are His, and you find yourself running, please don’t waste your energy and the precious time we have here to carry His message to the lost, to spread His love, and extend His Grace. Stop. Repent of your running and the things that separate you from His love and protection. Surrender and stop kicking against the goads.
You simply cannot hide from a relentless loving God!
Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
1 Peter 5:8 (HCSB)
Don’t fear sudden danger or the ruin of the wicked when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from a snare.
Proverbs 3:25-26 (HCSB)
“I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit — the Father will send Him in My name — will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:25-26 (HCSB)
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Messiah have now come, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown out: the one who accuses them
before our God day and night.
They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their lives in the face of death.
Revelation 12:10-11 (HCSB)
I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content — whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:12-13 (HCSB)
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (HCSB)
But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (HCSB)
