God’s Wisdom! – 6/26/18

God’s Wisdom!

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.

James 1:5 (HCSB)

Note from Kip…
Wisdom is an honorable thing to seek. But we are not always wise in the way that we seek it. In fact, our attempts to seek out wisdom are more often than not adventures in folly and nothing more.

Real wisdom comes from the Lord. The world would decry this statement but it is true.

Who is wise and has understanding among you? He should show his works by good conduct with wisdom’s gentleness. But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t brag and deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.

For where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every kind of evil. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without favoritism and hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace.

James 3:13-18 (HCSB)

The wisest man I ever have known was my dad. He was often referred to as the gentle giant.  He was a giant among men both in stature and in his demeanor.  He was a quite man always pondering the ‘what if’ about most everything he encountered. But was slow to speak of what he had surmised. He would much rather put it to action in his own time and not seek the approval of others.

He was that way with a joke as well. I remember time and time again someone would tell him a clever joke and pa would crush their spirit as he looked at them with a blank stare, attempting to find the humor in what was told him.

He wouldn’t mentally throw away that humorist tail, instead it would simmer on his mind for hours or even days at a time.

Then, seemingly out of no where, He would burst in a loud and enthusiastic display of laughter, which invariably prompted those around him to question as to what was so funny. To which, he would typically repeat only the punch line of the joke in question. Then say, “I’ll have to remember that!”

I don’t think he ever forgot any of them.

For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up success for the upright; He is a shield for those who live with integrity

Proverbs 2:6-7 (HCSB)

Thinking back now, Pa got his wisdom from the Lord. He treated life in general the same as he savored those jokes. He took it in and waited for the inspiration that only God provides to sort it out for him.

He was a master craftsman, capable of doing most anything that he put his mind into but yet not strong in book knowledge. The book he knew best was God’s Word which he loved. He could not recite the technical names for things but at the same time he was more than able to tell you exactly how something worked and dismantle, fix and reassemble in perfect working order just about anything he put his hands on.

The one who acquires good sense loves himself; one who safeguards understanding finds success.

Proverbs 19:8 (HCSB)

Wisdom is not the result of knowledge. You don’t have to look very far to realize that some of the most brilliant minds, with numerous Ph.D’s to their credit are perhaps some of the most foolish creatures of all humanity.

If wisdom comes from the Lord, then I suppose that pretty much answers the question why that might be. We equate knowledge with intelligence, and mistakenly feel that also will provide wisdom as well, but it do not.

No one should deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, he must become foolish so that he can become wise.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, since it is written: He catches the wise in their craftiness;, and again, The Lord knows that the reasonings of the wise are meaningless.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20 (HCSB)

God’s wisdom confounds what the world might consider to be it’s wisdom. Things like the first shall be last and to save your life you must loose your like; escape common understanding without out God’s sweetening  of that knowledge to allow it to bloom into understanding. From that budding plant wisdom grows.

When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.

Proverbs 11:2 (HCSB)

Reflecting back on Pa, I guess what made him so large in all of our minds was his humbleness and love. I’m thankful he taught me where the path was because it would be easy to miss if you didn’t know what you were looking for.

Perhaps the greatest measure of wisdom is found in surrender.  Let me explain that a bit.

Is it not foolishness to assume you can out wit the master of all things. The architect of not only the sun moon and stars, but the body in which your soul abides and in fact, the very soul that resides in that body?

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways.”

This is the Lord’s declaration.

“For as heaven is higher than earth, so My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:8-9 (HCSB)

Therefore, if we truly seek to be wise, we must humble ourselves and surrender not just our will, but our thinking to the Lord Himself. For in Him all things were made that were created.  In Him, is all the vast wisdom and understanding that exists.

In the beginning the Word already existed.

The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

John 1:1-5 (NLT)

Nothing was created except through Him! Nothing! Is it any wonder why mans attempt to find wisdom fails the test of time? It is because through the ages, the wisdom of the ages belongs to the Lord!

Note: I’m trying something a little different beginning today. I will be publishing two articles each morning from now until further notice. The first will be the devotional I share with you each morning.  The second will just be other scriptures that I glean from God’s Word and wish to share with you.

This one will remain titled Devotional Passages – 00/00/0000
The verses will be contained in Passages For Today – 00/00/0000
