Confidence! – 7/10/18

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

Note from Kip…
God simply doesn’t lead us to something without empowering us to go through it.

His desire that we go through something, isn’t always going to be what we are fully convinced we want to do. That’s where faith and trust come in. Undoubtedly He does all things for His Glory.

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:28 (HCSB)

We can’t have faith and trust in the Lord if we are going to doubt His intent or ability to preserve us through adversity. The two conditions are incompatible with each other..

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:9 (NLT)

It was His plan from before the beginning of time to show us His grace through Christ Jesus. If we have vested faith and trust in this, then we have to accept Romans 8:28. If we accept that, the same holds true for Philippians 1:6.

We can’t simply pick and choose what portion of God’s Word applies to us and what portion doesn’t. It is God’s Word and we either believe God or we do not. There is no, ‘I believe God when…’ that we can preface in front of His Word.

For every one of God’s promises is “Yes” in Him. Therefore, the “ Amen” is also spoken through Him by us for God’s glory. Now it is God who strengthens us, with you, in Christ and has anointed us. He has also sealed us and given us the Spirit as a down payment in our hearts.

2 Corinthians 1:20-22 (HCSB)

Every promise He gives us is an emphatic, ‘Yes’. As I consider this I’m thinking of the hymn ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness’ and how it applies to this confidence we have do to our vested faith in the Lord.

Great is thy faithfulness, Oh God my Father.
There is no shadow of turning with thee!

In Him we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him.

Ephesians 3:12 (HCSB)

That boldness isn’t brash arrogance. It is complete assurance that God has, can, does, and will provide us the endurance to goto and through whatever it is that He has planned for us. Where our strength is faltering, His is over powering. Where we see no solution, He has everything under control and is working to see His plan accomplished; through us.

I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 (HCSB)

We have this confidence not in ourselves, but in Christ. We have it because we have faith and trust in Him and not in our own skills, ability and power.

All I have need of thy hand hath provided.
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Youths may faint and grow weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:29-31 (HCSB)

Confidence. Yes we can have confidence and we should. We do so by placing full faith in trust in God and His Word.

Great is thy Faithfulness!

I’m confident of that!
