Just A Closer Walk

Just A Closer Walk

Sweeter and sweeter; day by day…

The longer and closer we walk with the Lord the greater the joy, peace, and outright excitement I have for living my life, as close to God’s plan, as I possibly can.

I’m not, nor will I ever be a perfect Christian but when Jesus says

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”

Matthew 11:30 (NIV)

He was not trivializing the effort for us to walk in his light.

We all have highs and lows but as we walk the path that God has called us to, each day is a little brighter, those burdens we have seem lighter, and then on the bad days we have the comfort of the Lord with us knowing we never ever walk alone.

Dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. Let the Holy Spirit guide and help you when you pray. The mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ will bring you eternal life. As you wait for his mercy, remain in God’s love.

Jude 1:20-21 (NIRV)

build yourselves up in your most holy faith.”… If you find yourself in an active church family, we find that this happens in an almost organic manner. When someone brings a prayer request, others are there to partition the Lord for his grace and mercy.  When we support each other in prayer, we build up not only ourselves but the entire body of Christ.

“Let the Holy Spirit guide and help you when you pray.” …. This is something those who have not embraced a walk with God, just don’t get; how being guided and following the Lord can be the definition of freedom for a believer. And the part about helping when we pray is such a powerful element here.

Personally, I tend to be a bit clumsy when I pray publicly. For a time, I was embarrassed by that till I ran across a passage, that I’d read before, but it never really sunk in like it did then.

In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us when we are weak. We don’t know what we should pray for. But the Spirit himself prays for us. He prays with groans too deep for words.

Jude 1:20-21 (NIRV)

So, when we don’t have the words to express our hearts the Holy Spirit is there to fill in the gaps and make our conversation fitting to God.  And I’m not just talking about public prayer like me with my clumsy prayers, no… no that is just the least of what the Holy Spirit does for us in prayer.

The times when all we can muster in our hearts is a short plea of “Lord!!!! Please help!”; the Holy Spirit takes that humble prayer and the content of our heart and conveys the beautiful essence to God the Father on our behalf.

The songwriter wrote:

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
   Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

If we desire a closer walk with the Lord, we must communicate with him. The more frequent and fervent that communication the closer the bond grows between us and our Savior. It doesn’t matter what we are praying about or even if the only prayer we have is to have “Just a closer walk” with Jesus, the results will be the same.

In the Grace of Jesus!
