Seek and Find
Knock and it shall be opened…
June 3rd, 2019
Seeking is what humanity was engineered to do. Seeking truth. Seeking God. Seeking so many things, the list goes on, almost endlessly.
We should be fairly proficient at the process by this point, but sadly we aren’t.
I’m talking about everyone, not just Christians and not just those who haven’t surrendered their hearts to Jesus; everyone.
There are things that all of us are seeking, such as financial stability, health, understanding, happiness, and peace. Other things to be sure, but these cover the more common items.
Those who have yet to give their hearts to Jesus, regardless of if they are willing to accept it or not are looking for something to fill that spot inside of every human being which was engineered by the creator for his Spirit to reside. Instead of having the Spirit of God present in that spot, mankind will seek pleasure, entertainment status and hundreds of other things. But God is the only one that can fill that spot.
The scriptures I have for these people are many, but I stand in the hope of what is found in the following passage.
From one man he made every nation of the human race to inhabit the entire earth, determining their set times and the fixed limits of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move about and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ʻFor we too are his offspring.ʼ
Acts 17:26-28 (NET)
Because Jesus himself said…
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.”
Matthew 7:7 (NET)
Jesus was talking about everyone as well. He wants a relationship with us. Nothing short term. He wants a relationship with us forever. He wants us knocking on the door of eternity and asking Jesus to take control and provide that missing piece of our lives we seek, even if we don’t know we want God’s Spirit in us, it is exactly what we seek.
Those of us that have that spot occupied by God’s Spirit are also seeking! For instance, righteousness and love, the kind of love only God can introduce into a life.
The one who pursues righteousness and love finds life, bounty, and honor.
Proverbs 21:21 (NET)
The result is that we find “life, bounty, and honor.”
Now seek the Lord your God wholeheartedly and with your entire being! Get up and build the sanctuary of the Lord God! Then you can bring the ark of the Lordʼs covenant and the holy items dedicated to Godʼs service into the temple that is built to honor the Lord.”
1 Chronicles 22:19 (NET)
We as believers should be seeking that ideal perfection of Jesus and the Father. So often we find those who have surrendered their lives to Christ and then within a short period of time they find themselves in a rut where they have adapted their newfound faith with the trappings of their lifestyle before.
Trying to keep up with all their friends and associates. If they are doing the big trips and big houses, then that is exactly what we want to be doing.
God has set forth many things he calls us to in our effort to become the disciples he most wants us to be.
Jesus was asked by the religious higher ups of the time just what the most important law of the scriptures was. Jesus had a profound answer for them.
Jesus said to him, “ʻLove the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.ʼ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: ʻLove your neighbor as yourself.ʼ All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:37-40 (NET)
This love of God, he wants it to permeate our very being. It is why he wants us to be his disciples. So that the joy that love fills us with is constantly refreshed and renewed with each and every day, each and every moment.
So “Seek and Find”, all of us.
In the Grace of Jesus!
