Good For It!

August 27th, 2019

There isn’t a whole lot in this world that you can faithfully rely upon. With few exceptions everything we uses wears out or breaks. Funds deplete. Relationship wain due to separation or death. Pastors will prove themselves to human, just as parents, teachers and doctors will. Pets will bite us. The list seems to have no ending to it.

But God is good for it!

What ‘it’ is, yields a multitude of possibilities.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.
So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord. And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline

Lamentations 3:22-27 (NLT)

All you need is love!

First of all, His Love for us is unending. Even for the sinner that never repents God’s desire that they turn from their evil ways and turn to Him for Grace.  But when they don’t, He is just as much about justice as He is about love and Grace so when the opportunity is presented and ultimately denied, the result is the judgement for which we all are guilty of.

He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

2 Peter 3:9b (NLT)

He created us for a relationship with Him. At its very core, that is why each of us exist. Sin entered into the picture and fouled up the works. We were on a glide plane to an eternal existence with God, until the fall. Satan seeking to destroy everything good related to God, saw an opportunity to disrupt that intent. Humanity fell from grace; it wasn’t till God’s Son purchased that grace to redeem all of us from the punishment we were due as a result of sin.

This is love deeper than we can possibly fathom and yet, the lost will say that if God really were all about love then he wouldn’t punish people for sin; he would just forgive them and be done with it.

The problem is even though his capacity for love is infinite, his propensity for justice is as well. Therefore, God did everything possible to give us a way out form eternal destruction. If we don’t take advantage of that offer it isn’t on Him, it is on us!

Mercy Me!

His mercies never cease.” Just as we were talking God has gone to massive lengths to provide a means of escape from the punishment we deserve. Just as His love is endless so is His Mercy and Grace.

Sin doesn’t have degrees. Grace can and will overcome all sin, if the sinner is willing to repent.

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.

Romans 5:20 (NLT)

Grace therefore comes in one size and one size only; overwhelming cover for all unrighteousness.  Grace obliterates sin; all of it!

Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” He is so faithful that every morning His grace and mercy is renewed for another day. This endless source of mercy is not something we can ever dimension or measure.

Going further in this passage we see, “The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.

He is Good for love, good for justice, good for Grace and mercy. He is good for it! He wants us to depend on him and that very goodness. “The Lord is good to those who depend on him”. He wants to do good things for those who seek him out.

And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline”; not that it’s necessary bad to submit at a later age, or any age. The point is there is a benefit to submitting ourselves to the Lord God; it is good!

Remember God created us for a relationship. He isn’t’ interested in waiting till we get to heaven to start that relationship. He regularly took walks with Adam and Eve in the Garden, what makes you think that he doesn’t want to stroll along, step by step, with you? He does. This new life thing doesn’t start when we finish the race and cross deaths door; resurrected into Glory with Jesus.

Jesus wants that relationship right now. He wants to run the race with us. He wants to stand by our side in the darkness. He desires that we rely on His power, strength, and ability to propel us to heights we never imagined. He is “Good For It!

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

He’s looking for us to cast our yoke of sin that burdens us down at His feet. He wants us to pick put on His yoke, it isn’t difficult or cumbersome. He’s right there with us making the way forward through this land of darkness and sin.

He, the Light of the World, who shares that light in us and makes us the Light of the World! He’s “Good For It!

In His Grace!
